Spanning the Idaho/Montana border, the Scotchmans are one of the last, and largest, wild areas in our region. We conduct education, outreach and stewardship activities to preserve the rugged, scenic and biologically diverse 88,000 acre Scotchman Peaks Roadless Area. We believe the Scotchman Peaks deserve congressional designation as Wilderness for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future generations.

Scotchman Peaks Trail #65

A high wind event in early October has left many downed trees and large piles of debris across the Scotchman Peaks Trail #65. The size, location and instability of these obstacles pose a very difficult and potentially hazardous challenge to traverse and/or bushwhack around. While experienced hikers may accept the personal risk and succeed in getting past these obstacles, we do not recommend use of this trail in it’s current condition regardless of skill level or ability. We will be working with the forest service to identify solutions/projects to restore the trail to better conditions and let you know about any progress.
