Spanning the Idaho/Montana border, the Scotchmans are one of the last, and largest, wild areas in our region. We conduct education, outreach and stewardship activities to preserve the rugged, scenic and biologically diverse 88,000 acre Scotchman Peaks Roadless Area. We believe the Scotchman Peaks deserve congressional designation as Wilderness for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future generations.

Ask Mr. Scotchman

. . . because sometimes you have a question that only a goat can answer.

Ho-o-o-o-wdy! My name’s Monty and I’m  top goat at the top of Scotchman Peak. Bein’ the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness mascot has its cha-a-a-allenges, I wa-a-a-nt you to know. Sometimes, it ge-e-e-ts mighty crowded up here, for instance, and us mountain goats don’t much like being crowded. I mean, why-y-y do you think we live up here in the rocks?

Ho-o-o-wever, we’re all for wi-i-i-i-lderness, so I’m here to answer your questions about the Scotchman Peaks.

Do you wanta know how hi-i-i-igh our peaks are, or where to get great pictures of my home and playground? Ho-o-o-ow about all the other four-leggers in these parts? Or  those cra-a-a-azy two-leggers stomping around with humps on their backs

I  know nothin’ about ma-a-a-ath, physics, literature and not much about poetry — except hi-i-i-iaku — but I do know about mountain goats and the Scotchman Peaks. I’ve tramped every be-e-e-eutifull inch of this wild area, so go on, ask me anything.

Monty, the SpokesGoat
