Roughly 60 miles south of Canada, the 88,000 acre Scotchman Peaks roadless area spans the Idaho-Montana border. Since the 1970s, when the U.S. Forest Service carried out extensive evaluations of lands suitable for wilderness, this rugged, scenic and biologically diverse portion of the Cabinet Mountains has been managed for its wilderness potential. The Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness believe now is the time to preserve the Scotchmans, one of the last, and largest, wild areas in our region.

Quote for Wilderness Wednesday

This week we will celebrate Wilderness Wednesday with our favorite quotes!  One of the most notable wilderness quotes of all time is a classic from Henry David Thoreau: “In wildness is the preservation of the world.” We couldn’t agree more!  We keep this one, as well as other favorite quotes, close at hand, on a special page on our newly redesigned website.

Our new webpage are now one month old and the feedback has been very positive! Filled with new features, more people are visiting and they are stopping at more pages and staying longer.  All are important measures of how well we are able to use the website as a means of getting information out.

One important, fun and inspiring new feature is the page of favorite wilderness quotes we have compiled. From Thoreau to Leopold, Roosevelt to Marshall, Muir, Stegner, Olson and Abbey, you will find many of your favorites and more. We included well known quotes as well as some obscure ones in a collection that we hope you will enjoy as much as we do.

Let us know if you have a favorite quote that is not included on this page and we can add it.  Afterall, these aren’t written on stone (although some deserve to be) but they are imprinted on our collective wilderness conscious and expanding that is what we are all about!
