Spanning the Idaho/Montana border, the Scotchmans are one of the last, and largest, wild areas in our region. We conduct education, outreach and stewardship activities to preserve the rugged, scenic and biologically diverse 88,000 acre Scotchman Peaks Roadless Area. We believe the Scotchman Peaks deserve congressional designation as Wilderness for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future generations.

Scotchman Peaks Wilderness Fall 2009 Plein Air Paintout

The fun of combining twenty talented plein air artists with the beauty of the Scotchmans Wilderness is returning this year to Hope, Idaho, at Kally Thurman’s Outskirts Gallery, located in the Hope Market Cafe adjacent to the post office.

The artists will begin arriving on Friday September 18th, and will fan out to their favorite wilderness viewpoints, including sites near Heron, MT, Bull Lake, the Ross Creek drainage, and Little Spar.

On Saturday and Sunday, September 19th and 20th, the Hope Market Café will host an open house (FREE) to the public with the artists showing their freshly painted work from 2-6 PM each day.

On Sunday at 3PM, the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness will present a Purchase Award for the “Best of Show” painting. Prizes will also be given for 2nd and 3rd place. Gourmet pizza, and other food and beverages will be for sale at the Hope Market Café.

For more information, call Kally Thurman at the Outskirts Gallery at (208) 264-5696.
