Gulo Gulo in the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness!

Posted on Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

USFS biologists have shared this video of a wolverine they captured on camera in the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness as part of their 2011-12 monitoring efforts.  This marks the second year in a row that a wolverine has been photographed by biologists in the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness area.

In early January, IDFG biologists also shared photographs of a wolverine that had visited one of their camera stations in the Selkirk Mountains of the Idaho Panhandle.  Though it has not yet been confirmed to be the same wolverine seen in that area in 2010 and 2011, it may well be the same individual.  We have yet to capture an image of a wolverine in the proposed Scotchman Peaks Wilderness, but it’s exciting to know that they have a continued presence in our region!

Thanks to both the USFS and IDFG for sharing their images with us. Click on the thumbnail at right to watch a Gulo video.

    Hi Kelsey,

Thanks for sharing the exciting images of the wolverine in the Cabinet Mountains Wilderness. I saw my first wolverine in the summer of 1978 at Lower Cedar Lake in the north end of the Cabinets. Please note the plural in Cabinet Mountains Wilderness.

Thanks again for posting these images and for the great work that you are doing here.

    Happy Trails………Charlie
