Forest Road 2292 intersects Montana Highway 200 at MP 6.5 ±. Parking is available in a plowed turnout directly across the highway from the road intersection. The road is not plowed in the winter, which makes for a nice snowshoe trail. Carpooling will be available from Sandpoint.

Hike Description:

Take a snowshoe hike along the southern edge of the Scotchman Peaks proposed Wilderness via Fatman Road #2292. This 6-mile, one-way trek begins at the intersection of #2292 and Montana Highway 200, and follows the unplowed road to its intersection with Blue Creek Road #409. It’s a hike with filtered views of the Scotchman Peaks and the Clark Fork River valley. Elevation gain (and loss) over the six miles is about 1100, making for relatively gentle grades. Hike begin time is at 10 am, Mountain Time, 9 am Pacific.

The hike is rated as moderately strenuous in consideration of its length.
