Directions to Trailhead or Meeting Location:

We can carpool from Sandpoint (depending on who signs up) and/or from Clark Fork. The trail-head is about 15 miles up Lightning Creek from Clark Fork.

Hike Description:

This will once again be a mystery. Come prepared for well, anything. One thing for certain it will involve fun & laughs along the way. Mud Creek is a beautiful reclaimed logging road. It parallels Lightning Creek south for a couple miles with stunning views & then turns up the Mud Creek drainage. It’s not steep but it IS long – over 6 miles one way. One can turn back (difficult to get lost on an old logging road) but would love to have all come to the “top”. This trail will eventually connect to the East Fork trail & over to the old Rattle Creek roadbed, which is a trail coming from Keeler Creek in MT. I rated this as “moderate” because of the easy terrain but 12+ miles is definitely a hike & it is a steady incline all the way up. The last mile or so is side-hilling through a lot of huckleberries & a beautiful open forest. Last year we saw a moose (and a LOT of elk/moose/deer sign). Bear spray might be a plus. Or a slow runner. (just kidding, but serious about the bear spray)
