Meetup details: We will begin at the parking spot on at MP 6.2 ± on Montana Highway 200, roughly 45 miles east of Sandpoint. Crpooling from Sandpoint take about an hour, which means hikers will leave Sandpoint at 7:30 a.m. Pacific time. Two good meeting places for car pooling are Safeway parking lot in Sandpoint and Yokes parking lot in Ponderay. If you are coming from the east, that means you don't have to be at the trailhead until 9:30 Mountain time.
Hike Description:Summer light is long and bright, givng lots of time to get to Star Peak Lookout, at about 6200 feet, via the new Trail #999. Bring water (the trail is dry) and snacks, lunch, a camera and your legs and lungs. 4,000 feet gain ± in just over 5 miles. Enjoy spectacular views from the new trail.
