Roughly 60 miles south of Canada, the 88,000 acre Scotchman Peaks roadless area spans the Idaho-Montana border. Since the 1970s, when the U.S. Forest Service carried out extensive evaluations of lands suitable for wilderness, this rugged, scenic and biologically diverse portion of the Cabinet Mountains has been managed for its wilderness potential. The Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness believe now is the time to preserve the Scotchmans, one of the last, and largest, wild areas in our region.

Challenge Grant Announced for 2008

We are excited to announce that the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness has been awarded a $4,000 Challenge grant by the Cinnabar Foundation!!

In order to receive these funds we need your help to raise matching contributions. The sooner we raise the matching funds the sooner that Cinnabar will release the grant money and the more effective our campaign will be. You can follow our progress by viewing our Fundraiser Progress Chart.

Many of you answered our call by becoming a “Friend” of Scotchman Peak. Your support and contributions have helped us to achieve the community outreach and education necessary to moving forward a proposal for wilderness in the Scotchmans.

Your donation will allow us to receive this matching grant, which will provide significant help to us in continuing these programs and publications. We hope to reach our goal of matching donations by Oct 1st, sooner if possible.

Please send checks payable to the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness, in any amount, to:

PO Box 2061
