Looking to pitch in to Wilderness efforts this summer? The Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness have you covered!
With so many major events coming around the corner this summer, the chances to volunteer fit in to any schedule and lifestyle.
- Summer at Schweitzer Mountain Resort kicks off Sunday, June 23, with 7B Sunday. Sandpoint nonprofits and organizations all turn out for a chance to connect with the community. While you’re at it, sample some of the best food and drinks the region has to offer. The Friends’ booth is the perfect place to talk with people about why saving the wild Scotchmans is so important.
- Sandpoint’s Fourth of July celebration is all about the American spirit. And what’s more American than the untamed wild of the West’s most beautiful mountains? Join the Friends on July 4 for a parade and more as locals remember why they live in North Idaho.
- The Huckleberry Festival, set for Aug. 9-11 in Trout Creek, Mont., is the ultimate celebration of the mountain states’ famous fruit. People turn out in droves to sample all the food and sweet treats that feature the mighty huckleberry. The Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness is among the many organizations that man booths for the event. So if a cool huckleberry ice cream strikes your fancy, this may be your ticket. Ray can sign you up!
- Last but not least, the Bonner County Fair is one of North Idaho’s most popular events. Hundreds turn out for 4H contests, demolition derbies, rodeos and more. And—are you seeing a trend yet?—there’s plenty of delicious fair food to leave you feeling happy. The Friends will be there to spread the word about our wild backyard. The more people who can help on that job, the better. Talk with Britta about signing up!
Do any of these events sound like a day well spent? Or perhaps you’re open to the trailwork that keeps the Scotchmans accessible to all. Learn more about them and other volunteer opportunities by contacting us.
