Who knew that Mr Scotchman was into Haiku? Our twitter followers did!
OK, let me explain. Mr. Scotchman is the official “face” on Facebook and the “voice” on Twitter for the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness. You might call him our “spokes goat”.
He’s a pretty fascinating fellow. As an indigenous mountain goat, Oreamnos americanus, Mr Scotchman is interested in his home range, the Scotchman Peaks. He’s alert to what it happening there and willing to share his observations. Mr Scotchman is very interested in wilderness and watches what is happening around the region and the country.
Of course, Mr Scotchman follows very closely the work of the Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness. As our “spokes goat” he can be pretty outspoken about what we do.
But Mr Scotchman is not all “billy goat gruff“. Oh no, he has a more sensitive side, almost a zen like tolerance for the cold harsh rocky regions in which he, and his kind, thrive. In short, Mr Scotchman reads and writes HAIKU, an austere form of poetry to match the austere world in which he lives.
He’s taken to sharing his compositions on twitter. On Monday, using pointy toes on the slate stone found naturally in the Scotchmans, he scratched out this haiku:
“Glorious firmament. Cerulean Sky. Blue is not enough word”
Or maybe you’d enjoy this gem from earlier in the week:
“Rose rising in the East above the Crags. More snow soon? I am ready.”
Like all good artists Mr Scotchman doesn’t scratch poetry in a vacuum. He wants to share his creations with you and he wants you to share your favorite Scotchmans Inspired haiku with all of us! I absolutely LOVE Haiku, even though I don’t have a talent for it. But here goes:
“Snowflakes melting quietly on my tongue. Brrrr! Wish it was chocolate.”
