Crosscuts and trail building and hikes, oh my!

Summer is a busy time for the Friends and we have several opportunities for our volunteers in the coming months. Below is a short compendium of upcoming events and training days.

First, we need hike leaders. We are putting together our hike schedule for the upcoming newsletter, due out April 15. If you are thinking of leading a hike this summer, now’s the time to go to our hike proposal page and fill out the form describing the hike you would like to lead.

We are also hosting “Crosscut Maintenance 101,” led by veteran back country packer Jeff Halligan. Learn the basics of sharpening and maintaining crosscut saws. This class will held June 3 at my place in Montana. We have six spaces left. Write to sandy@scotchmanpeak.org sign up.

We will also hold our annual trail maintenance and hike leader training on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 4, at Eddy Creek campground in Montana, with an afternoon ‘practicum” on Star Peak Trail #999. Trail building and maintenance basics and cross-cut training, as well as hike leader procedures and responsibilities will be covered. This class will be facilitated by our Forest Service partner Joel Sather. Follow this link to learn more and to sign up.
