Carpooling/caravaning from Libby and Sandpoint will be available! Ross Creek Cedars are accessed from Montana Highway 56. Follow Highway 200 east from Sandpoint to its intersection with 56, and then north on 56 through the spectacular Bull River Valley to Forest Road #398, a left turn if you are north bound. It's a bit of a drive, but car pooling will be available from Sandpoint on the day of the hike. If traveling from Libby; head south on Hwy 2 out of town.  About 16 miles from Libby, turn left onto Bull Lake Road/Hwy 56, drive about 18 miles and turn right onto Forest Road #398, follow the signs to Ross Creek Cedars, about 4 miles up road #398.

Hike Description:

If you’re looking for a way to entertain your kids this summer, FSPW’s staff members are leading hikes for moms and their kids in the Scotchmans!  We’ll take our time on these kid-friendly excursions and enjoy the journey.  Moms and their little ones of any age are invited, whether they hike in a baby carrier or on their own 2 feet.

This hike will be on trail #142, starting at the Ross Creek Cedars.  Depending on the number of sign-ups and mom’s interest level, we can hike and explore the nature loop trail through the Cedars or we can continue through the Cedars and start up trail #142.  We can turn around at any time, the goal of these hikes are to keep kids interested.  Pack lots of water, snacks, lunch and sunscreen and make sure to dress appropriately for hiking (no flip-flops!) and crazy Montana weather changes.
