It’s a well-known fact of life — almost everything is better with a dog around.
That includes hiking. Taking your furry friend out for a day in nature is great fun and exercise for everyone involved. Of course, preparing ahead of time will help guarantee a good experience for both you and your pet.
Long-distance hiker Whitney “Allgood” LaRuffa knows all about it. And at an upcoming presentation co-hosted by Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness and Idaho Trails Association, he’ll break down how to have the best experience with your dog outdoors. It all happens Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 6-7 p.m. PDT, 7-8 p.m. MDT online on Facebook Live. With 10,000 miles of hiking experience, Allgood knows a thing or two about hitting the trails. He got his start in the ‘90s and has worked as a ridge runner on the Appalachian Trail. As the President Emeritus of the American Long Distance Hiking Association-West and the VP of Sales and Marketing for Six Moon Designs, it’s safe to say that hiking is his life.
Allgood hiked over 6,000 of those miles with canine companions, starting with his first dog, Erwin, who he found on the Appalachian Trail in 1996. Nearly 25 years later, he and his furry friends continue to educate hiking enthusiasts across all levels of experience.
