Shear Silent Auction

Welcome to the 2011 Summer Silent Auction for Scotchman Peaks!

In good local summer fashion, this auction of the painting Bull River (hung at Coldwater Creek Wine Bar on First Avenue in Sandpoint) opens on the 4th of July and ends at midnight on Labor Day.

The painting Bull River was created by Thompson Falls, Montana, artist Jared Shear, and took best of show in the 2009 Scotchman Peaks Plein Air Paint Out. In recognition of that achievement by the artist, the painting was purchased by FSPW. Proceeds from the sale benefit Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness in our mission to achieve Congressional wilderness designation for the Scotchman Peaks of northern Idaho and western Montana.

There are two paintings in this auction. You can view the other online here or in person at Trinity at City Beach in Sandpoint.

About the Scotchman Peaks plein air events

Dozens of pieces of original art featuring the proposed Scotchman Peaks Wilderness are created annually during two plein air events sponsored by Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness. The Scotchman Peaks Paintout, cosponsored by patron Kally Thurman and the Outskirts Gallery in Hope, Idaho, takes place in September. The Extreme Plein Air is a backcountry expedition in the tradition of Thomas Moran during which artists immerse themselves in the wilderness.

The art created in these events is sold to benefit the artist, Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness and the galleries in which they hang, supporting the arts as well as wilderness advocacy in Montana and Idaho. Much of the accumulated art from the plein air events is hung at the Outskirts Gallery. Stop by for a grand artists’ sampling of our wild Scotchman Peaks.
