Hey trail volunteers!
Ready to get out in the woods for some trail clearing? We’ll be helping the Forest Service reestablish a trail along Regal Creek to an old mine entrance. The Forest Service crews are out there right now trying to get a head start so they are prepared for our arrival!
We’ll be meeting Saturday (July 9th) at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time at the Regal Mine trailhead. To get to the trailhead from Highway 200 in Clark Fork: take Lightning Creek Road (past the CF library). Keep following Lightning Creek Road (it forks left) until you see a bunch of cars parked on the side of the road. The trailhead is right before the bridge so if you go over the bridge you’ve gone to far.
The Forest Service will provide us with all the tools we’ll need, hardhats, etc. We’ll mostly be clearing out brush so make sure to wear good hiking boots/shoes (no sandals please). Also, remember to bring: gloves, water, lunch, snacks, rain coat, camera and to dress in layers.
Will be in the woods until about 3:30/4:00 p.m. If you need to leave earlier than that, that’s perfectly fine! A group of us will be camping near the trailhead. Mary Ann Hamilton is in charge of Trails and Recreation for the Idaho Panhandle National Forest, and she’s going to try and reserve the campsite for us. Everyone is welcome to camp out!
For those of you who would like to join us on Sunday (July 10th), I’ll be at the Clark Fork library parking lot at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time. We’ll drive up to the trailhead and find the rest of the crew! Once again we’ll probably be working until mid-afternoon, but you’re welcome to come and go whenever it suits your schedule.
