Tuesday Trail Talk (on Wednesday)

Star Peak trail, the facts: Sweat. Scenery. Heat. Humor. Pulaskis. People.  Loppers. Laughter. Carry. Camaraderie. Tread. Tremendous. Three days and very, very, very close to a mile of tread. One hundred sixty volunteer hours so far!

One last chance to join the fun on the Star Peak trail re-build for this year is coming up this Friday, August 17th. Even if you can’t/don’t want to break a sweat, show up and admire our trail. When we are done with this project, it is going to be so much easier to hike to the lookout on Star Peak. All of you can be proud of this endeavor, whether a worker, onlooker, or supporter. Contact trails@scotchmanpeaks.org for more information about Friday or even just where to find the trailhead.

Another – less strenuous – way to advocate for Scotchman Peaks Wilderness is to help with the booth at the Bonner County Fair next week. You don’t have to be an expert on the Wilderness or have hiked all the Peaks. Enthusiasm and talking to folks is all it takes. Sit or stand as you are able. The Fair starts Tuesday, August 22nd and runs through Saturday, August 25th.  Setup is on Monday, August 21st and breakdown is Saturday starting at 7 p.m. We still need some people, especially for Thursday and Saturday afternoons and evenings. Whether you can only hang out for an hour or want to contribute more time, contact trails@scotchmanpeaks.org or call 208-597-5206.

We aren’t done with the good weather yet! There are hikes and other delights coming up. There is room on the Scotchman Peak hike Sunday, September 23rd. Phil Hough and Deb Hunsicker will be leading a slow and steady hike up the mountain, If you want views, this is definitely a hike to put on your calendar. Contact phil@scotchmanpeaks.org or call 208-946-9127 for more information and to get your name on the list.

See you on the trail (and at the Fair)!
