Hike Description:

Join Chuck Gross for a snowshoe in Montana along the east side of the proposed wilderness area into one of the best areas for views into both the Scotchmans and across to the Cabinet Mountains Wildnerness Area on the other side of the valley.

This is a relatively moderate travel up the occasionally groomed Ross Creek Cedars road for skiers/snowshoers. Opportunities abound up this drainage in winter. There is a grand view of the Bull River valley a couple of miles in after climbing approximately 1000′. The group could opt to snowshoe up some side roads for more valley views or continue onto the Cedars – an effort that would be sure to ramp up your appetites (approx. 6 miles roundtrip). Chuck is hoping to attract all levels of snowshoe experience, so don’t expect the group to try and put in huge mileage on this one as a result, unless it’s a group that can and wants to! While this makes for a great ski as well, it’s best to bring snowshoes to help keep the group together due to differing travel speeds. The goal is the viewpoint of the valley (approx. 4 miles roundtrip) and if you’re blessed with bluebird skies, to points beyond if you feel like it (expect that you will if it’s clear!).

Please try to sign-up no later than Jan. 31 so there is time to iron out logistics/carpooling via email or phone prior to the hike.

Chuck can take up to 7 other folks on this trip, so sign up early to reserve your spot!
