Directions to Trailhead or Meeting Location:

Take Highway 200 (east from Sandpoint). Watch for the Idaho/Montana state line. After you cross into Montana, watch for the highway mile markers. At MT mile marker 6+, there is a wide turnout on the south side of highway 200. If we get a large group from Sandpoint, we can carpool from the Safeway parking lot.

Hike Description:

Let’s go check out the Star Peak Lookout and Granville “Granny” Gordon’s perfectly stacked rock cabin. For those of you who haven’t discovered these gems yet (and for those who have), this hike is a great way to appreciate the human history of the Scotchmans. It’s also a great way to see a lot of country, once you summit, you’ll know why there’s a lookout tower there! The trail to Star is slightly over 5 miles, with over 4000 feet of elevation change.
