Idaho Senator Jim Risch introduced the Scotchman Peaks Wilderness Act (S.3531) in Congress in December 2016. The bill is no longer active, but here is a summary of what the it would do:

  • Designate approximately 14,000 acres of Wilderness in the Bonner County, Idaho, portion of the Scotchman Peaks.
  • Would not close any areas currently open to timber harvest, motorized recreation or mountain biking.
  • Keep the management of fish and wildlife in the hands of Idaho Fish and Game.
  • Recognize tribal rights and practices.
