Directions to Trailhead or Meeting Location:

Group should rendezvous at the Clark Fork High School Parking lot at 8:30 am on the 6th. From there carpooling is recommended to the trailhead. Joe Zimmerman will have a signup sheet for folks at the High School, and will lead the group to the trailhead. Clark Fork is 25 miles east of Sandpoint on Idaho State Highway 200. After entering Clark Fork from the West, watch for the Chevron Station on the left. Turn left at the station onto Lightning Creek Road #419. The high school lot is the first drive on the right.

Hike Description:

As part of the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act Celebration, Joe Zimmerman, backcountry ranger for FSPW and the USFS, will lead a hike to Scotchman Peak.

Hikers will rendezvous at 8:30 am and return to the parking lot by about 4:30 pm or sooner — in time to make the festivities in Sandpoint. Joe will contact participants in time to allow folks to arrange to carpool from Sandpoint if need be.

This is a strenuous hike. Hiking boots or sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. Carry at least two liters of water (three if it’s excessively hot), and plenty of snacks, plus a good lunch. Also, it is wise to be prepared for sudden weather changes. Ranger Zimmerman is a wilderness EMT.
