Wild About Art

The first weekend in October is all about seeing the Scotchman Peaks Wilderness through the eyes of regional artists. This will be the fifth year of the Plein Air Paint Out, with a show and sale on Sunday, October 7th.

Plein air artists paint in the outdoors rather than a studio. Outdoor painting once seemed a radical notion; however, plein air artists are now considered an important segment of the art world. One of the characteristics of “En Plein Air” is that the works must be completed rapidly. Some artists finish several paintings in one day.

The Paint Out is a joint effort between Kally Thurman, who owns the Outskirts Gallery, and Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness.

The public is invited to see the artists in action on Saturday, October 6th as they capture the beautiful scenes provided by the Scotchman Peaks. On Sunday, October 7th, the finished and framed works will be on show and for sale from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Outskirts Gallery adjacent to the Hope post office. There will be a no-host bar and refreshments.
