Winds in the Wilderness

Hiker in the Scotchman Peaks Wilderness Area

Welcome back, summer!

And welcome back Friends!

This year, your Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness have so much in store for you that we are nearly bursting at the seams! We have historic trails to restore, trails to clear and reroute, rare plants to find, weeds to kill, streambanks to stabilize, anniversaries to celebrate, great hikes to be hiked, naturalists to hear, outreach events to meet new Friends at, community meetings to prosper, a boat cruise to float on….

and an absolutely amazing tract of land to do it all in!!!MrScotchman

I could yammer on about it more, but a more fun idea would be to join us this coming Wednesday, May 14th, at our Annual State of the Scotchman’s!   Enjoy some appetizers and Eichardt’s top-notch selection of beverages while we present a short summary of our status, summer activities, volunteer 2013 awards, and then kick back and listen to our guest speaker, Heather ‘Anish’ Anderson, who broke the record for the fastest unsupported hike time on the PCT.  And when I say she ‘broke the record,’ that’s an understatement.  She smashed it.  Pulverized it.  Ground it into dust!!  It is a presentation sure to inspire, this Wednesday, May 14th, 6-8pm at the Forrest M. Bird Charter Middle School, Sandpoint.

And then stayed tuned to the Winds in Wilderness, every Saturday throughout the summer, and I will do my best to keep you up to date on the most current happenings for all these great activities we are engaged in this summer, and all the Friends, board members, and interns who are making it possible.

Who will the mystery guest — our 3000th Friend — be — and who will be there to greet them?

   Stay Wild !
