We will meet at the Silvertip Junction, 1018 MT Hwy 200, Noxon, MT then carpool to the trailhead.

Hike Description:

Step into the enchanting world of forest ecology on our guided group hike up the Moran Basin, near the Historic Bull River Guard Station, where you’ll discover the secrets of the trees that tower above us. Led by Jon Colby, Silviculture Forester, KNF Cabinet Ranger District, this immersive experience offers a unique opportunity to delve into the diverse ecosystems of our local forests.

As we venture along forest trails, you’ll learn how to identify a variety of tree species by their distinctive features. Gain insight into the interconnectedness of forest communities and the vital roles that trees play in supporting biodiversity and ecosystem health.

As we pause to admire towering old-growth specimens and delicate saplings alike, you’ll come away with a newfound appreciation for the beauty and complexity of our forests. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or a curious newcomer, our tree identification and forest ecology hike promises to deepen your connection to the natural world and inspire a sense of wonder for the forests that surround us.

We will meet at Silvertip Junction at 8:00am MT (7:00 PT) to carpool to the trailhead. The outing will last about 4 hours.
