Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness believes it’s important that we all build community around our collective love for the land. And that includes with children.
Winter Tracks is an experiential learning program offered to schools around the Scotchman Peaks. Students spend a day outdoors learning from volunteer instructors about mammals of the area, tree identification, orienteering, animal tracking, avalanche safety, principles of Leave No Trace and more. Last season, over 300 students got outside during the winter and learned about nature in nature.
Tyler Chisholm, our 2016/2017 Winter Tracks Coordinator, puts it this way:

And while that was a heartwarming experience in itself, where this program really shines is in the bonds forged between the students and the dedicated, knowledgeable community volunteer instructors. Winter Tracks not only connects local youth to the outdoors, but it also connects them to their community and potential role models within it.”
This holiday season, support this inspiring outreach program by volunteering your time or with a financial contribution.
