Meeting Location: Big Spar Lake trailhead. From Sandpoint take highway 200 to highway 56. Just before milemarker 25, turn left onto Troy Mine Road. At 3 miles take the right fork onto the first road where the sign says "spar lake". Follow this road as it turns to the left at the next fork, again following the signs for spar lake. After a couple more miles, turn left at the intersection, following the signs to Spar Lake. In approximately 1/2 mile, turn left in to the parking for the Big Spar Trailhead. From Libby/Troy take highway 2 to highway 56. After mile marker 25 (Little Joe's), turn right onto Troy Mine Road. At 3 miles take the right fork onto the first road where the sign says "spar lake". Follow this road as it turns to the left at the next fork, again following the signs for spar lake. After a couple more miles, turn left at the intersection, following the signs to Spar Lake. In approximately 1/2 mile, turn left in to the parking for the Big Spar Trailhead.
Hike Description:Let’s take a walk around Spar Lake to celebrate the beginning of the summer season! We will begin at the trailhead overlooking the lake and follow the water’s edge around the northeast side of the lake. Towards the back of the lake we will hike through a large grove of old growth cedar and hemlock trees. We will sit in the historic trees to enjoy a snack/lunch before returning to the trailhead. At just over 6 miles, it will be a lovely day to enjoy the lake, any flowers blooming, and welcome in the summer adventure season.
We will meet at the trailhead at 9:00am Montana Time (8:00 Idaho Time) and finish up about 4:00pm MT (3:00 PT).
