Please meet at 8:00am at Clark Fork High School, 502 N. Main Street, Clark Fork to carpool to the trailhead.
Hike Description:The Cabinet Mountains are a wonderfully remote region of North Idaho that’s begging to be explored, and it’s here you’ll find the little-known waterfall known as Char Falls and the beautiful Moose Lake north of the Scotchmans. For a memorable trek through unspoiled scenery, this alpine lake and hidden falls won’t disappoint.
Moose Lake Trail is a perfect short, easy 1.5 mile trek into the wilderness. You will be guided into the vibrant forestlands and along Moose Creek, be it dry or running. Enjoy the sparse shade that the open tree canopy provides and revel in the scene of the wildflowers and huckleberry bushes that bound the path. After some hiking, you will reach the shoreline of Moose Lake. Revel in the beauty of the alpine lake encircled by towering evergreens and bound by the looming ridges of Moose Mountain.
Pack plenty of water, food, snacks and your camera as the scenery is quite photogenic.
After our visit to Moose Lake we will take a drive then a short walk to a wonderful overlook of the absolutely stunning Char Falls—a 50-foot cascade that spills into a pristine pool at its base.
