Directions to Trailhead or Meeting Location:

Directions to Trailhead: The trailhead is just off of Montana Highway 200 45 miles east of Sandpoint, ID and 45 miles West of Thompson Falls, MT. The trailhead turn-off is near mile marker 6.5 on Forest Road #2292. About 100 yards up the road, there is a switchback and the trail head is in that corner. It’s marked with a brown gilsonite lath with the number 999 on it. There is room for about four or five cars near the trailhead. You can also park at a highway pull-off that directly across highway from Forest Rd #2292. This highway-adjacent parking is a great option for winter hikers.

Hike Description:

Join us on a snowshoe hike up Star Peak. Join Rebecca and her adventurous family for this trip up to the Star Peak Lookout. The lookout sits at about 6200 feet, we will gain 4,000 ± feet in just over 5 miles! For those of you not familiar with snowshoeing that is a strenuous hike…fun and exhilarating but not just a stroll in the forest.  On a clear day, the lookout has some incredible views of the surrounding mountains and valley below.   If the weather does not allow for a summit trip, we have the option of stopping near the 2 mile marker where there is a nice overlook.

Bring snowshoes, an extra pair of socks, water, snacks, and a lunch. Older children who can undertake a strenuous hike and have had some winter hiking experience are welcome to join.

This event will be from 9am to 4pm MST (8am-3pm PST)
