The Scotchmans are closed for fire.

NOTICE: ALL TRAILS IN THE SCOTCHMAN PEAKS ARE CLOSED OR SUBJECT TO CLOSURE VERY SOON. PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE WOODS AND OUT OF THE WAY OF THE FIRE FIGHTERS.

Due to the fire burning on the east side Scotchman Peak, the Idaho Panhandle National Forest has issued the following immediate trail closures. It is prohibited to be on or use: Scotchman Peak Trail #65, Goat Mountain Trail #135, Regal Creek Trail #656, Morris Creek Trail #132 or any of the Trails that are accessed from East Fork Creek Trailhead #1184, 563, 1030, 212.

In addition to the closures on the Idaho side listed, ALL trails in the Pillick Ridge area are closed, including Star Peak Historic Trail #999, Star Peak Trail #998, Blacktail Trail #997, Pillick Ridge Trail #1036, Napoleon Gulch Trail #1035, Star Gulch Trail #1016, Hamilton Gulch Trail #1019, and Dry Creek Trail #1020.

Ross Creek Trail #142 and South Fork Ross Creek Trail #321 are closed as of today, and Friends of Scotchman Peaks recommends that you DO NOT USE Spar Peak Trail #324 or Little Spar Lake Trail #143. It is thought that the Forest Service will close these trails by end of day.

There is significant firefighting activity along Montana Highway 56, with fires in Napoleon, Star and Hamilton Gulches, as well as on Berray Mountain, Government Peak and Vimy Ridge on the east side of the highway. Visibility is limited by heavy smoke. It is recommended that, if possible, TRAVELERS SHOULD CHOOSE ANOTHER ROUTE.
